Alto’s Adventure is the perfect game for an endless hike through the snowy mountains with a skateboard. Ever felt like you need a better version of Temple Run or Subway Surfers, but with more fluidity? This is the game for you. Released in 2015 by Snowman, this game was initially launched for iOS.
The game involves a character moving to the right with procedurally developed landscapes as he skates over an endless vista of snowy mountains, jumping llamas, and more. This game was inspired by Ski Safari (2012) and has the character perform various jumps, and backflips, all with the touch of the screen. This seamless, fluid game soon became everyone’s favorite skating game on the mobile platform, which led to its inherent release on the Android platform in 2016.

Although the player has limited control, which enables him to control the jump of the player-character, the endless generated landscapes are the peak of visual aesthetics. The character skates across the endless landscape, jumping over obstacles and saving llamas. The player can complete around 180 of the different in-game goals that are shown only three at a time. Some of the goals include traveling a certain distance, rescuing any runaway llamas, jumping over life-threatening gaps, skirting over rooftops, and escaping the angry elders. With each goal, the player receives awards, as well as collect coins that are used to upgrade the character in the in-app store. A running high-score meter is ever-present during gameplay that increases with performing tricks, completing goals and more. This also increases with an increase in distance covered and trick combos. As you progress in the game, the player-character can use a wingsuit. The background environment changes in lighting as the game goes through various times of the day. This adds an amazing dynamic visual aspect for the game that is rarely seen elsewhere
The game was built by Snowman, an Indie game development studio out of Toronto, with the collaboration of Harry Nesbitt, a game developer in Devon, England. The aim was to bring a unique skateboarding experience on the mobile platform, the likes of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater (2000) and Journey (2012). The developer intended to bring the unique experience of skateboarding on a mountain and being in sync with it as the landscape around disappeared seamlessly. The game had equal reception on Android and iOS with a Metacritic score of 92/100.

The game is available on iOS, Android, Amazon FireStick and Windows platform.
